Patrice Woods

7 Questions with Patrice Woods Highlighting Love and Light   Can you tell me a bit about yourself? Firstly, my name is Patrice Woods I am a young and free-spirited individual who’s a lover of life and a lover of people. I take pride in my humility and my faith in God. What’s the nature of the program/endeavour you run and how did it get started? I’m involved in business and charity work. Firstly, I opened and started my salon about five years ago – ‘PWHAIRSTUDIO’; and recently, during the pandemic and COVID restrictions, along with my mom, I started......

WEIGHTED

I started this piece with a heavy heart and so it lingered. I actually abandoned it because I just wanted to tune out... Sometimes I just can't come to grips with the world. But with recent events...No...I simply couldn't curl up. I'm hurt, upset and frankly just tired ... and in that state I've debated the use of this account. I'm aware of the complexities of social issues and I typically never feel quite qualified to comment. But as a concerned human being and as a black person, it would be remiss of me to simply stay silent on this.......

Grit

In taking a closer look at my unfortunate lack of self-discipline, something came to mind. 'Feelings' are the first hurdle. You simply don't feel like it. The will simply isn't there no matter what the reason might be. We can't force ourselves to want to do something but we can definitely force ourselves to do it anyway. Grit!. The feeling does not limit what you're actually capable of doing, it only serves as an excuse...A way to let yourself off the hook if you will, from doing what you know you ought to be doing. I find that as a......

Plan

So having acknowledged my chosen 'nature' and realising the ability to grind; showing up and sitting down to work to enable inspiration to find me at the most opportune moment; should have solved all productivity problems. It hasn't. Even with the new found sense of dedication there's a lot of time slipping away where nothing much is accomplished except in wishing that much more could be done. It's because I'm busy ... things are being done but nothing worthwhile is. This term busy I realise isn't synonyms with productivity. Thomas Edison said it best I think " Being busy does......

Grind

I take the notion of the 'grind' as a mechanism to survive the distance between 'start' and 'achievement' . We typically start a venture already looking ahead to see how far again we have to go. Seeing the vast distance yet to be covered is sometimes discouraging, even disheartening, especially living in a world gripped by immediate gratification. But with the grind we set the goal, we line ourselves up, we put our heads down and then we work. We focus on putting in the time, the effort, improving on skill, acquiring knowledge...defining and refining ourselves and our processes, all......

Energy

We all cultivate and put out energy into the world. However, all energies aren't the same. Some bring about synergy while others are an encumbrance, so we should first be mindful of our own output and then take special note of the output of those around us. Especially those that are comprised of our inner circle. There are simply some people whose energy diminishes you; we know these people; they even suck away your own energy and this obviously isn't fruitful to achieving whatever it is you're striving towards. There's only so much energy we each can harness at any......

Zeal

The zeal we have for the things that matter to us in life all depend on how much energy there is to spend. There's something I'm especially guilty of; that's pouring energy into people and things that simply don't deserve it, exhausting one's energy stores to the point where there's nothing left for yourself. Now while there's merit in giving, it's tragic to have given into fruitless efforts with the idea of being selfless. On top of which being deprived of the ability to then sow a good seed which might have benefited a lot more people. I would like......

Special

Time for another round of thought sharing. I've been thinking about the fascination we all have with the individual's uniqueness. In today's world we deem ourselves special; separate and apart from everything else. Then I came across the words of Neil deGrasse Tyson that reflects my feelings on this notion and I could not have articulated it any better:  " We have come to define significance as 'I'm special and everything else isn't'. Religions thinking they're special. Cultures thinking they're special. Individuals thinking they're special. The top four ingredients in life; in your body...the top four atoms in order are......

Real

Your life as it is right now is as real as it will ever be. It won't by any measure be more real in the future. It won't be more real when you complete school, when you get that job, when you get into or out of that relationship. When you offload the burden of financial or health problems. Truth is, these hindering factors - these embarrassing, tedious, tiring and annoying obstacles - are the crux of what it is to be human. To live imperfectly yet still matter. It's just life. Accept how real that is....

About the Writings

The humble ramblings of an artist. Our lives are stories and stories matter, and so they should be shared for all our benefit. This is why I write these. They are thoughts and ideas stemming from our shared lives. In hopes of us learning and growing together.
